GasFIR SF6
OGI Camera

Portable optical gas imaging camera for SF₆ leak detection and visualization

Detect SF₆ Leaks from a Safe Distance

Designed for real-time sulfur hexafluoride (SF₆) leak detection, the Pergam GasFIR SF6 uses optical gas imaging (OGI) to make escaping gas visible. Its infrared imaging system allows operators to inspect suspected leak points from a distance, without direct contact with the equipment. Besides SF₆, the camera can detect other gases, including ethylene, methyl ethyl ketone, Freon-12, acetic acid, chlorine dioxide, and ammonia. The GasFIR SF6 also measures surface temperatures and records images and video. It is particularly useful for inspecting electrical substations and facilities that use SF₆-filled switchgear or circuit breakers.

What Is SF₆ and Why Does It Matter?

Sulfur hexafluoride (SF₆) is a colorless, odorless gas used in high-voltage equipment for electrical insulation and arc quenching. Its excellent insulating properties make it ideal for gas-insulated switchgear and circuit breakers, where space and reliability are critical. However, SF₆ is also an extremely potent greenhouse gas. Leaks can release SF₆ into the atmosphere, making regular leak detection essential for reducing emissions and maintaining equipment reliability.

Why Choose GasFIR SF6

  • For finding leaks faster

Scan large areas and pinpoint visible gas emissions in real time, helping teams focus on suspected leak locations.
  • For safer remote inspections

Visualize gas leaks without direct contact with the equipment under inspection.
  • For getting more out of every inspection

Detect gas leaks and assess surface temperatures with one portable instrument.
  • For better-informed maintenance decisions

Record inspection findings and review them later to determine where further investigation is needed.

How GasFIR SF6 works

GasFIR SF6 makes invisible sulfur hexafluoride leaks visible by visualizing infrared contrast created as SF6 absorbs background IR radiation. Using special filters, the camera shows SF6 emissions as clouds on the screen in real time, allowing for safe and efficient leak detection without physical contact.
