Transport Canada STC granted for gas detection system ALMA

Pergam's unique Aerial Laser Methane Assessment system is now available in Canada. The system supports helicopter operators in the profitable leak survey business and increases pipeline safety for thenaturalgas industry.

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON, Sep. 17, 2015 — Pergam has recently received the Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) from Transport Canada for its aerial leak detection system ALMA. The system combines high definition video recording with precise measurement of gas emissions. It meets all requirements for conscientious pipeline surveys. It can be utilized for transmission and gathering natural gas lines, both buried and above ground.

The equipment is designed for temporary use on Bell 206 Jet Ranger models with an installation timeless than two hours. The technology allows a save flight altitude up to 500 ft. and is independent of weather conditions. The active laser concept is based on infrared absorption spectroscopy. A patented algorithm calculates the gas emissions in parts per million multiplied by meter (ppm*m). A georeferenced video of the right-of-way is recorded simultaneously. The deliverable is a comprehensive report that can be used to plan measures and to provide proof of inspection with historical data.

The certificate can be found in the NAPA data base by entering certification number SH15-22. The system was also awarded type certification by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in 2013 and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) in 2011.
